Welcome!
Dear Friends,
I am pleased to announce that I am running for re-election to the COC / Santa Clarita Community College District Board of Trustees and respectfully ask for your vote in the November 5, 2024 election. It has been a pleasure to serve this community first as a high school counselor in the Hart District, then as counselor and professor at COC; and now, as President of the COC Board of Trustees.
I am grateful to our community for the trust and support shown to me during my tenure. I am proud to be part of the Board that approved and supported adding new courses, certificates, majors, support programs, services, sports teams, and facilities, such as the Takeda Science Center. And I am especially delighted, as a longtime advocate, that the college has established an InterCultural Center, a Veterans Center, added more mental health counselors, and opened a Basic Needs Center.
Under my leadership, the Board played an important role in ensuring that the college handled the COVID pandemic with the utmost care for its students and employees and, despite this challenge, it ensured the college never ceased to provide instruction and student support services. It is exciting to see our students have the opportunity to engage with the Biodiversity Initiative and NASA projects. Another point of pride is the fuel cell technology system that reduces the college’s emissions, carbon footprint, and dependency on the energy grid. I could go on and on about the wonderful programs and accomplishments at COC brought about by a community of dedicated trustees, administrators, professors, and a wide array of important support staff.
But… we can’t rest on our past successes. There is still a lot of work to do. Let’s increase campus and community engagement. Let’s increase work training opportunities and job placements. Let’s increase graduation and transfer rates. Let’s have facilities that operate efficiently and support our students’ educational and work training needs. The future is bright as we forge ahead with enthusiasm and confidence. I am committed to meeting our community’s need for quality education and workforce development, innovation and networking opportunities, and supporting our students so that each one succeeds. Please join me. It takes a village!
